Melle Aussems (1992) is an artist from The Netherlands whose work is an exploration of contemporary society with a focus on personal experiences and impressions. Through a variety of mediums including painting, printmaking and sculpture, Aussems creates works that reflect on being a cook in the kitchen, the logistics of commodities and notions of economic values.
He is fascinated by mundane yet fundamental things. This can be a stack of cardboard boxes on a scooter, images from x-ray machines or working with truck canvas. The existence of these materials or objects are defined by their necessity and efficiency; as a means to service a greater form of demand. Taking these images and materials into the studio, Aussems investigates a different perspective, a different approach on their pre-existing definitions and questioning our collective way of perceiving them.
